GPS tracking of vehicles and machinery

What exactly does a GPS tracker do?

| August 2022 |

GPS tracking requires a tracking device to be in a vehicle, on another asset. This GPS tracker uses telematics (telecommunications + informatics) technology to monitor a vehicle. A GPS tracking device can be used by fleet and equipment managers to locate where a truck or piece of equipment is, to report on traffic conditions, and to monitor how long each vehicle or piece of equipment is on the road, or spends at a job site. It is also possible to retrieve live location data. This is called real-time tracking. With real-time tracking, you can see immediately via, for example, a (mobile) management application where the GPS tracker (and the vehicle, item or person) is currently located.

Operational status of vehicles and machines with GPS trackers

In addition to the basic data of cars and machines, you can also view the current operational status directly in the management application. The data shows whether an engine has been on or off, and how long the vehicle or machine has been at a particular location. You can also see what speed a vehicle is traveling at and in which direction it is traveling. These features are effective when a customer needs to be informed about when, for example, a delivery is happening, or a service truck will arrive. This means you can provide more customer service without disturbing the driver.

Automatic time recording

A very effective feature of GPS tracking is the ability to record the time spent for a machine or vehicle within a predetermined geographic area - called a geofence zone. As soon as a tracked asset enters or exits a geofence area, it is recorded and transmitted to the management application. A geofence zone is easily set up on a map using a circle, square or asymmetrical area drawn with the mouse.

Accurate log of route history

Each individual GPS tracker attached to a vehicle or equipment can be set to send a position according to a predetermined time interval. For commercial vehicles, vans and trucks, it is very useful to get a live update every second or every few minutes. The GPS tracker hardware for this is usually wired mounted, or connected via the OBDII port in the vehicle. For containers, trailers and other non-motorized assets that are moved from place to place, a longer time interval is sufficient. You then use a GPS tracker with a large internal battery. This allows you to see exactly where the equipment is and you don't have to worry about battery life, as they last for several years.

Regardless of the type of asset or hardware installed, the location data is recorded in a detailed log with history that is kept for one year. This way you have the necessary evidence to help you in possible disputes by customers. You can view the history as a list, or view the activity visually on the map.

- Set up geofence zones and work-private mode

- Notifications and warnings for deviations in the operation of the car

Fuel consumption tracking

- Automatic monitoring of fuel consumption and refueling

- Warnings of anomalies such as fuel theft, for example

- Uploading of fuel bills, analysis and comparison of fuel consumption

Vehicle Security

- Track the position of a stolen car

- Manage predetermined geofence zones

- Optional connection to Securitas control room

- Driver identification before starting

- Ability to remotely prevent the car from restarting

When are your machines idle and when are they really working?

Stay informed about the location usage and activities of your machines and equipment. Their current position, track fuel consumption, track waiting times and better work planning. Know how many working hours an asset was deployed and use this information to increase operational uptime.

Manage your machinery

With the All-Connects solution, the position and machine hours of machines, and other equipment (forklifts, excavators, compressors, etc.) can be tracked. This gives you a versatile tool to increase efficiency in your business.

Deployment working hours machine

- Track machine running hours

- Detailed history by machine

- Calendar and booking tool to maximize machine uptime

Everything is visible in the online tracking platform, where interactive map or innovative calendar view gives a good insight into your machine fleet. You miss nothing, and can make better decisions thanks to understandable reporting.

Machine protection

- Track the position of stolen machines

- Know when machines are brought into and out of a geofence area

Thanks to reliable GPS trackers, you know the exact position of each machine. In the event of theft, you have a much better chance of recovering the lost equipment. Even if thieves dismantle the tracking device, you'll have information about the last reported location.

Fuel consumption

- Systematic monitoring of fuel consumption

- Refueling tracking

- Automated alerts for differences in fuel consumption

Fuel should be used efficiently. All-Connects helps you achieve lower fuel bills. It can monitor fuel consumption and keep track of tank data. If something is not right, you get an automatic notification. You quickly identify not only an inefficient machine operation, but also fuel theft.
